As long time Northern Virginia residents and former senior association executives, Tom and Joan bring strong business experience and familiarity with the area to clients who appreciate the personal and professional touch. Returning to the real estate business after successful professional careers, Tom and Joan will use their expertise gained from their forty plus years in the Washington association arena to ensure that clients get the best representation and unique solutions to their real estate needs.
Having been involved in the Northern Virginia community for more than 30 years, Tom and Joan also bring a unique understanding of Northern Virginia and its communities. For the past 25 years, the Donnellys have resided in McLean and are very active with McLean community affairs.
Tom has long been active in Northern Virginia, serving on the Board of Directors for McLean Little League from 1996-2014 and as the league’s Chief Umpire for 18 years. He was also President of the McLean Estates Homeowners Association for six years and currently serves on the Friends of the McLean Community Center Board.
Tom retired as Executive Vice President of the National Water Resources Association in September 2013 after 29 years. Following 10 years of service as an officer in the United States Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star in Vietnam, and the Joint Services, Army and Air Force Commendation Medals, Tom became Staff Director for the Water Resources Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works where he advised members on formulation of water and natural resources policy.
Tom holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Norwich University and his M.S. degree in Water Resources Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
As a native Washingtonian, Joan has a unique understanding of the Metropolitan Washington area. She also brings strong business and marketing experience to the real estate arena from her 17 years as a business journalist with an international aviation trade publication and her two decades as a senior VP at a national airport association, where she received numerous leadership awards.
Those talents will translate into innovative marketing solutions and strong negotiating skills. Clients will notice the “can do” philosophy and her desire to exceed expectations of both buyers and sellers. Her long-time enthusiasm for real estate is well known to her friends and clients and will result in tireless efforts to find the right real estate solution for each unique situation.
Joan is currently on the Board of Travelers Air International and past president. She is also active in several local charities.
Joan graduated from the Holton Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland and holds a B.A. degree in History of Art from George Washington University.
Their son, Evan, attended Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean and graduated from St. Stephens and St. Agnes School in Alexandria Virginia. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BA degree in Political Science. Evan is also a real estate agent in the Old Town office of McEnearney Associates.
